A NEW SEASON for Eddie & Sue Hyatt and Friends Eddie’s Snapshot of Our Journey & Where We Are Today A Season of Preparation & On-the-Job Training Sue and I met in Bible school in 1974 and married about 1½ years later on May 17, 1976. In the summer of that year, we settled in Sue’s homeland of New Brunswick, a Maritime Province in eastern Canada, where we planted a congregation, Christian school, and Bible school. We were young, naïve in many ways, but sold out to Jesus and full of faith and vision. During our 8 years in Canada, we saw many people touched by God’s saving and healing power, including Sue’s family. In 1984, we relocated to the Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas, Metroplex and formed Hyatt Int’l Ministries as a Texas non-profit corporation and received recognition from the IRS as a 501 © 3 organization. We also began what turned out to be our long journey through the halls of theological education, intending to complete only a Bachelor’s degree. It was, obvious, however, that God was in this process, and we went on, each to complete not only our Bachelors degree, but also 2 Masters, and a Doctorate, all in high quality institutions. As a result of the extensive research we were doing, we began writing and publishing during this time. Sue also began ghost-writing for others and has since completed countless books.
A Season of Working with Other Ministries God used our education and our writing to open doors, and in 1991, I began teaching at Zion Bible College in Rhode Island, while Sue wrote for the president, Dr. Benjamin Crandall. We were at Zion for 1991-92 and then returned for 1996-97 at the request of Dr. Crandall. It was during these times at Zion that I completed the book, 2000 Years of Charismatic Christianity. It was only a beginning. In 1997, I accepted a teaching position in the Theology Department at Oral Roberts University and we moved back to Tulsa. While I taught at ORU and Victory Bible Institute, Sue kept Hyatt Int’l Ministries alive and continued writing. In 1998, I accepted an invitation from Freda Lindsay to teach at Christ For the Nations Institute in Dallas, TX, where Sue and I had met and married. While at CFNI, Sue kept Hyatt Int’l Ministries going, wrote books for others, and completed her book, In the Spirit We’re Equal to add to her first publication, Where Are My Susannas? During this time, I also taught as a guest in churches and Bible schools throughout the U.S. and Canada and presented a lecture at Christ Church, Oxford University in England. We were at CFNI for 7 years until I resigned my position in 2005.
A Season of Change & Refocusing While at CFNI there was the growing sense that I needed to give myself fully to the purpose for which God had called us (Sue and me) together. This would mean leaving CFNI and the income it offered, giving myself completely to His plan for us, and trusting Him alone for provision. I took the step of faith and resigned my position at CFNI effective at the end of the fall 2005 semester. In the meantime, we experienced a strong drawing back to Tulsa to begin a multi-faceted ministry, with the primary focus being the Int’l Christian Women’s Hall of Fame. God miraculously provided the cash to purchase a very nice mobile home, which, for 2 years served as both office and living space. During the first year in Tulsa, we also ministered together in India, Indonesia, Canada, Sweden, and at the Azusa Centennial in Los Angeles. By 2007, we had outgrown the mobile home and were literally launched into a large 2900-square foot home that has served as office space, a gallery for developing the Hall of Fame, 2 classroom studios for streaming and recording, a library and resource center, book storage, a shipping room, guest quarters, and living space for Sue and me. While in this location, we began live streaming inductions for the Hall of Fame and a Tuesday Night Bible Study that has become a great blessing to many.
A New Season of Expansion, Growth & Harvest We have now outgrown the large house and it is time to take another step forward in order to continue to grow and develop the commission and vision God has given. Some time ago, we began to experience a drawing to Grapevine, TX, which is located on the northwest side of the DFW Int’l Airport—a door to the world. We prayed and shared this with a few close friends. We have also made many trips to Grapevine to pray and “spy out” the land. All of this has served to confirm in our hearts that this is the right move at this time. Then, just a few weeks ago, Sue was asked to take leadership of God’s Word to Women, Inc., organized in 1998 as a Texas non-profit and registered with the IRS as a 501 © 3 the same year. The primary communication tool of this organization is a website that receives almost 18,000 unique visits each month, even with little stewardship over the past few months. It is a wonderful addition and merges beautifully with the Hall of Fame and its various aspects of ministry. Grapevine is a fast growing tourist destination and convention center with a small town, historic atmosphere, while still being part of the massive Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex. In Grapevine, in a location that provides easy access to the busy Main Street foot-traffic, we envision a public space that will house the gallery of the Int’l Christian Women’s Hall of Fame and all that that entails. It will also provide space for live seminars and classes that will be streamed live on the Internet. We envision a Bible school emerging with live classes, but also a base for an Internet school with students from around the world. It will provide space for a research center, a specialty bookstore, and perhaps a “coffee spot” for fellowship. We have finally begun taking steps toward this relocation. We have signed a rental agreement for an apartment, beginning November 19, and have rented storage space so that we can begin moving items in advance of the actual move. As we launch into this new season of life and ministry, we believe that God is calling new friends to partner with us in faith, prayer, and financial support. A long-time friend from Maine just visited us in Tulsa and said, “I am praying for new partners for your ministry.” Her prayers, I am sure, are being inspired by the Holy Spirit for this special time, and are being answered. Would you, therefore, prayerfully consider becoming a friend and partner with us as we do our small—but very important—part in God’s big plan?
