| In the Spirit We’re Equal is the definitive work on the role of women in Scripture, in Christian history and in the Church today. Dr. Susan Hyatt clearly demonstrates how the historic Church moved away from the egalitarian approach of Jesus and early Christianity and then sought to justifiy its marginalization and suppression of women. She shows how the Church is still suffering from this unfortunate lapse of faith and offers a way out of this dilemma by insisting on a return to the message of Jesus and the New Testament.
The Century of the Holy Spirit, published by Thomas Nelson, is an academic investigation into the dynamics of the 20th century Pentecostal-Charismatic movement. Dr. Vinson Synan served as editor for the work and several recognized scholars were invited to contribute chapters in their area of expertise. Dr Susan Hyatt was invited to contribute a chapter on women in the Pentecostal-Charismatic movement. Her chapter begins on page 233 and is entitled “Spirit-Filled Women.”
In Women Who Led the Way, Dr. Susan Hyatt show how women were the primary founders, directors and teachers of the first Bible schools to emerge in the Pentecostal revival of the early 20th century. She documents how, as usually happens when a movement institutionalizes, the women were then marginalized and confined, often by the very men they taught who became leaders in the movement. This is a very inspiring and eye-opening work.
Jesus taught that women are equal with men in terms of substance and value, privilege and responsibility, function and authority. This Bible study explores 10 specific area in which Jesus made that equality apparent. He shattered tradition, upset the religious leaders, and set the standard for those who would follow Him.
In Who’s the Boss? Drs. Susan & Eddie Hyatt demonstrate that in Eph. 5:21-33 Paul was not trying to answer the question that is so often asked of this passage today; “Who’s the Boss.” By demonstrating the unique grammatical structure of the passage and defining certain words in the Greek, the Hyatts show that this passage actually affirms an egalitarian approach to marriage that is characterized by partnership and mutuality.
